Hypertension Africa begins the 6th version of Fight Hypertension Challenge on the 18th of February, 2022. This challenge is a structured 10 – day intensive training on how to reduce high blood pressure with non-pharmaceutical interventions.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO), an estimated 1.28 billion people around the globe have hypertension with majority living in low and middle income countries. Meanwhile, 46 % of this figure are not even aware of their condition. Hypertension, also known as the silent killer is a major cause of premature death worldwide.
In Africa, the estimated number of people with hypertension is projected to rise to 216.8 million by 2030. Nigeria contributes significantly to this burden as the most populous country in Africa. Considering that most hypertensives live in low to middle income countries with poor healthcare facilities, the economic burden of drug therapy in most cases are not affordable.
In fact, a 2020 study concluded “that the average cost of treating hypertension in Africa was high among urban dwellers and catastrophic among the least earners”. It is therefore strategic to focus on prevention of the disease and use of non-pharmaceutical interventions in its management.
This is where Hypertension Africa comes to the party. This is the first and foremost health coaching and health support company focused on helping hypertensives achieve normal blood pressure with less reliance on medicine.
It achieves this through awareness campaigns on hypertension, lifestyle modifications and other non-pharmaceutical measures. Fight Hypertension Challenge, now in its 6th version, is Hypertension Africa’s major awareness campaign to sensitise the public on the dangers of this silent killer disease considering that most hypertensives are not even aware of their condition.
